There is no maximum age limitation for participation in Special Olympics. The minimum age requirement for participation in Special Olympics competition is eight years of age. Special Olympics New Hampshire allows children who are at least six years old to participate in age-appropriate Special Olympics training programs offered by our Local Programs.

Young Athletes
Special Olympics New Hampshire offers opportunities for children between the ages of two and seven to participate in the program through the Young Athletes program (YAP).  YAP is an innovative sports play program for children ages 2-7 with intellectual disabilities, designed to introduce them into the world of sports.  This program will prove enormously beneficial on multiple levels for your child.  The Young Athletes program helps children improve physically, cognitively and socially. All YAP participants must have a YAP registration on file with SONH.
Unified Partners
Unified Sports in an initiative that combines  an approximately equal number of Special Olympics athletes and athletes without intellectual disabilities (Unified Partners) on the same sports teams for training and competition. Unified Partners must be at least 8 years of age and have the appropriate forms on file with SONH.
