The Flame of Hope Lights the Way Across New Hampshire
21 Legs, 350 runners, and hundreds of miles of New Hampshire's roads covered...
The 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New Hampshire is here! For the next three weeks, law enforcement officers will be running the "Flame of Hope" across New Hampshire to celebrate and honor the athletes of Special Olympics New Hampshire.
This year's Torch Run, SONH's 29th, will be one to remember. Officers are also running to honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings and the work that law enforcement professionals and first responders did to assist in the aftermath by wearing special Boston Strong Torch Run t-shirts. The Final Leg of the Torch Run will end with a 33-mile run from Concord to the Opening Ceremonies of the 2013 State Summer Games at the University of New Hampshire in Durham on Friday, May 31st.
"The Law Enforcement Torch Run is more than just an event. It is a time for law enforcement to celebrate and honor our heroes - the athletes of Special Olympics New Hampshire," said Chief Robert Cormier, the New Hampshire Torch Run Director. Special Olympics New Hampshire's partnership with law enforcement is far more than just the Torch Run. Over the course of the year, law enforcement officials volunteer with local programs, attend all state competitions to present medals at awards ceremonies, and participate in a number of fundraising events including the Penguin Plunge, Winni Dip, and July's Fueling Dreams event. Since its inception in 1985, the Torch Run has raise $3,138,158 to benefit the athletes of SONH.

Regional Summer Games Are Underway
Last Sunday, on one of the most beautiful days of the year, more than 330 athletes from 24 different local programs gathered to compete at Exeter High School for the Seacoast Regional Games and at Berlin High School for the Great North Woods Regional Games.
Both Regional Games went incredibly smoothly from the Athletes' Oath to kick off the Games to the final athlete running across the finish line to end them. Athletes compete at the Regional Games in preparation for the State Summer Games later on this month in Durham, NH.
This Saturday we have three more Regional Summer Games taking place.

• Greater Manchester/Lower Merrimack Regional Summer Games
• Upper Valley Regional Summer Games

You're Invited to An Open House
We have some exciting news to share. Special Olympics New Hampshire's office got a makeover. SONH is such an important organization to so many people across the state, and our Board of Directors decided that our office should reflect the dynamic and important work that everyone involved with the organization does.
So, when our lease was up for renewal, our landlords agreed to updating the office as a part of our new agreement. Three months later and the office is almost unrecognizable. New paint, new furniture, but the same welcoming environment. The final touches are being worked on as we speak, and to celebrate and share our new look with you, we'd like to invite everyone to an Open House on Wednesday, May 15th from 3 - 7 pm to take a tour of the updated space. 2013 State Summer Games are Just Around the Corner
The 2013 State Summer Games are less than a month away. The Games will take place on Friday, May 31st and Saturday, June 1st. One thousand athletes will compete and even more volunteers will be there to make sure that the event runs smoothly. We wanted to give you a peak into all of the exciting events that will be happening.
Friday, May 31st
• 9:00 am: Athlete Staging for Parade of Athletes
• 9:30 am: Opening Ceremonies Begin
• 11:30 am: Lunch
• 12:30 - 5:30 pm: Competition (Track & Field, Aquatics, Bocce)
• 6:00 - 8:30 pm: Dinner & Dance
• 8:45 pm: Fireworks
Saturday, June 1st
• 7:00 am: Competition Begins (Track)
• 9:00 am: Competition Begins (Aquatics, Field, Equestrian, Bocce)
• 10:00 am - 2 pm: Law Enforcement Static Display
• 10:00 am - 3:00 pm: Healthy Athletes
• 12 noon: Lunch
• 1:00 - 4:30 pm: Competition
