       mission statement
Athlete Leadership Programs train athletes to serve in meaningful leadership roles other than or in
addition to that of “competitor”.

ALPs programming provides athletes with new skills that further complement the benefits beyond
improved health that result from participation in traditional sports training.

Benefits include:
1. Enhanced self-confidence and social competency.
2. Greater readiness for employment.
3. Better preparation for independent living.
4. Increased ability to make personal decisions.
5. Improved friendships and family relationships.

What is the Goal of ALPs?

1. Allowing athletes self-determination of HOW and in what role they participate in Special Olympics.
2. Putting athletes in meaningful positions of influence and leadership throughout the organization to help
determine policy and set direction.
3. Providing training for existing leadership as they welcome athletes in their new roles.
