Planned Giving: Options and Opportunities

Gift planning allows donors to give in ways that meet their needs and increase their philanthropic support while minimizing tax costs. Depending on the asset given and the gift arrangement selected, a donor can generally expect to obtain some or all of the following benefits:

· Fulfill philanthropic goals
· Reduce income taxes through a charitable deduction for the gift
· Avoid capital-gains tax on gifts of long-term appreciated property
· Retain payments for life of the donor and/or other beneficiaries
· Increase spendable income
· Achieve no-cost, worry free asset management
· Eliminate federal estate tax on property passing to charity
· Reduce costs and time in estate settlement
