Summer Games - Fri/Sat, June 12-13, 2009
The Summer Games are the largest competition event offered by SONH, including 1,000 athletes competing in seven sports. The University of New Hampshire has hosted the games for more than twenty years. Over 1,000 volunteers participate including 500 coaches and chaperones and 750 event volunteers.
Competition begins Friday morning, and Opening Ceremonies celebrates the games on Friday evening with a cruiser parade of more than fifty Law Enforcement Vehicles, the Special Olympics Oath led by the Athlete of the Year, the lighting of the Flame of Hope and fireworks.
Closing Ceremonies on Saturday afternoon includes the recognition of the Program that best exemplifies the spirit of Special Olympics with The Ray Kroc Trophy generously sponsored by Colley McCoy/McDonald's Restaurants.

Athletes compete in Regional Competitions prior to Summer Games, including equestrian, track and field events and swim meets.
The World Summer Games are held every four years. The next World Summer Games will be held in Athens, Greece 2011.
