SONH Field Services Manager Katie Diggins was married at the beginning of May and has a new last name. Katie is now Katie Closs - her e-mail has changed to KatieC@sonh.org.

Dream Riders Wanted

 

Motorcycle and car enthusiasts from eight states will gather together to honor the achievements of people with intellectual disabilities.Since its inception in 2001, Dream Ride has brought a diverse group together to celebrate Special Olympics athletes.  We are looking for athletes to participate in the Dream Ride Day in Connecticut on Sunday, August 28th. Athletes will be able to ride in classic cars with automotive enthusiasts as they showcase their cars. If you are interested in participating as a Dream Rider please contact Katie Closs for more information.

Applebee's Pancake Breakfast

 

Applebee's restaurants have been running various promotions for several weeks to raise money for SONH! On Sunday, June 5th from 9am - 11am the Manchester Applebee's will support SONH as they host a Pancake Breakfast - the cost is $5 a person. We hope you will attend this fundraiser and thank our friends at Applebee's for their support of Special Olympics!

Looking for Golf Volunteers 

  

Applebee's is hosting a golf tournament on Monday, June 7th at Canterbury Woods Country Club in Canterbury, NH. We are looking for a few volunteers to help with registration from 7am - 9am - if you would like to volunteer for this event please contact Carol Cray for more information.

 

Carroll County Golf Tournament

  

The Carroll County Law Enforcement Golf Tournament scheduled for June 7th has been canceled, if you have questions regarding this event please contact Carol Cray.

The SONH Summer Games begin Friday at UNH

  Summer Games 2011

The 42nd annual State Summer Games begin tomorrow at the University of New Hampshire. More than 950 athletes from across the state will come together in Durham to compete in Aquatics, Athletics, Bocce, Cycling, Equestrian, Powerlifting and Tennis. In addition to competition, the athletes of SONH will participate in Opening Ceremonies on Friday night and on Saturday night athletes will come together for a celebration dance at the Whittemore Center. You can find links to the schedules below.

 

Equestrian teams bringing horses to UNH - Please read the Vaccination/Coggins requirements for your horse.

 

The Movie on Saturday night will be Cars.

 

Local Coordinators - Please Note:

 

 

The Thursday night Lead Persons meeting is at the Whittemore Center. Parking is available in the Town Lot on Thursday night.

 

Please bring the list of your athletes (delegation report) that you received as part of your LP's registration confirmation with you to the Lead Person meeting. We will collect those papers with scratches noted on the sheet at the stat of the meeting. Athletes can be scratched but can not be added to an event or the games.

 

If you require a parking pass for the parking lot next to the tennis court please contact Mary Conroy via e-mail or by phone at (603) 770-4055. These parking passes are limited and will be given out based on availability.

 

Athletes should be in competition appropriate attire while competing (no jeans).

SONH would like to have as many communities represented in the LETR Cruiser Parade at Summer Games.  Athletes and Local Program Coordinators please visit your local police department and encourage them to send a cruiser to the Cruiser Parade. 

Law Enforcement: remember to bring a cruiser or specialty vehicle to the Cruiser Parade on Friday, June 3rd by 7:00 pm - Parking Lot A at UNH, Durham.  One cruiser will win Best in 2011!  Contact Deputy Chief Paul Dean at UNH PD with any questions at 862-1427 or PHD@unh.edu

We are recruiting Local Program Volunteers and athletes to help judge the Best Cruiser of 2011. The first five people that would like to be a judge, please contact Carol Cray for more information.

Local Program Fundraiser

 The Big Scoop Book

The Big Scoop Ice Cream Book will be sold at the SONH store this weekend during Summer Games.  SONH will receive 40% from every book sold!  Local Programs can benefit from this opportunity by selling the books as a fundraiser themselves - the book sells for $9.95 and for every book sold your program will receive $4.

We are looking for Local Programs (2 person max) to set-up a table outside Market Basket grocery stores and sell The Big Scoop Ice Cream Book. We have opportunities for Local Programs to sell the book at the following locations dates.

Saturday, June 11th
Concord (2 locations)
Rochester
Warner

Saturday, June 25th
Nashua (4 locations)

All locations are from 9am - 3pm and remember for every book you sell your Local Program will receive $4!
