Our New Name
The SONH Newsletter returns to a familiar name: The Torch. The entry came from our Facebook friend Barbara Gondek.
With more than 60 entries the decision was certainly not an easy one. We hope you find the newsletter informative and that you look forward to reading about all the things Special Olympics New Hampshire is doing. |

Special Olympics New Hampshire Announces New Staff
In addition to the three new employees we announced in the last newsletter (9/16), we are excited to introduce you to three more additions to the SONH team.
Tom Charbono has been hired as our new Field Services Manager. Tom brings 18 years of experience in Parks and Recration to SONH, serving in the role of Assistant Director and Director of the Franklin Parks and Recreation Department. As the Field Services Manager, Tom oversees the development and management of all Local Programs as well as Regional Competitions and Regional Development.
Ashley Herrin has been hired as the Volunteer, Training and Outreach Manager, Ashley will work closely with our event volunteer coordinators and is responsible for the training, development, recognition and management of all SONH volunteers.
Alyssa Aldrich has been hired as our Special Events Manager. Alyssa is responsible for coordinating, planning, organizing and managing SONH special events throughout the year. Alyssa is currently working on the 13th Annual Penguin Plunge as well as the High School Plunge. |

Save The Date for the SONH Volunteer Leadership Weekend
The annual SONH Volunteer Leadership Weekend will be held December 2-4 at Waterville Valley Resort. The weekend promises to be a great opportunity for Local Program Volunteers (LPV) and athlete leaders from across the state to come together and exchange ideas and experiences.
SONH has set up 4 tracks that you can choose from depending on your role(s) within the organization:
- Coaches Track: Training sessions in different sports to help expand the knowledge of coaches and assist volunteers in becoming certified coaches.
- Local Program Track: Will provide training to enhance Local Programs by increasing their knowledge and skills.
- Youth Track: Local Program Volunteers and Unified Sports® partners ages 14-18 will learn skills to promote Special Olympics while increasing their leadership skills.
- Global Messengers/Athlete Leadership Programs (ALPs) Track: Athletes will participate in training that enhances their communication skills, knowledge, and leadership abilities.

Steeple Gate Mall TD Bank #1 in NH
The TD Bank Be a fan campaign raised more than $47,000 for Special Olympics New Hampshire (SO NH) at 67 locations throughout the state. The Steeple Gate Mall location in Concord raised more than any other TD Bank store in NH, raising $1,777.66 for Special Olympics.
At a check presentation at the TD Bank store in Concord, SONH employee Pam Langille accepted a check on behalf of Special Olympics from TD Bank employees Deborah Greenwood, Lydia Sideris, Jasmine Tordiff, Martha McGowan, Tara Barnett, and Souad Deraoui for the funds they raised through the Be a fan campaign. |

Bingo for SONH
Special Olympics New Hampshire is sponsoring a new Bingo location in the Concord area. Airport Road Bingo, located at 48 Airport Road in Concord is open every Saturday and Sunday with the proceeds benefiting SONH.
On Saturday, September 24th, more than 50 people attended the grand opening of Airport Road Bingo and we encourage more to attend every Saturday and Sunday.

The mission of Special Olympics New Hampshire is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. |
