2005 Special Olympics World Winter Games

The 8th Special Olympics World Winter Games will be held in Nagano, Japan from February 26 to March 5, 2005. This showcase event marks the first time the Special Olympics World Winter Games will be held in Asia. Over 2,500 athletes from 80 countries, 650 coaches and 10,000 volunteers, families and friends will be there.

Sports include Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing, Snowboarding, Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Snowshoeing and Floor Hockey.

2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games

The 11th Special Olympics World Summer Games were held in Dublin, Ireland. This marked the first time this major event was held outside of the United States. Over 160 countries were united, competing in the largest sporting event in the world in the year 2003. Worldwide, approximately 7,000 athletes, 3,000 coaches and official delegates, 28,000 family members and friends, and 500,000 spectators were in Dublin to celebrate and be a part of the Games.
