This showcase event marks the first time the Special Olympics World Winter Games will be held in Asia. Over 2,500 athletes from 80 countries, 650 coaches and 10,000 volunteers, families and friends will be there. Sports include Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing, Snowboarding, Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Snowshoeing and Floor Hockey. This marked the first time this major event was held outside of the United States. Over 160 countries were united, competing in the largest sporting event in the world in the year 2003.
