Are you inspired by the journey of Thomas Cantara, SONH’s very own Six Star Marathon finisher? We sure are!

And the 26 miles that Thomas has completed (over and over again around the globe!) are what helped us choose this year’s fitness program: the TRY-Athlete Challenge!

You are invited to move 26 miles over the course of a 6-week fitness journey, tracking mileage associated with every activity. You’ll move across your personal Game Board with 26 spots that represent the 26 miles in a marathon. YOUR goal is to reach 26 miles before the challenge ends on August 2nd.

What are the dates of the TRY-Athlete Challenge?

June 21st – August 16th.

We’ll kick of the tracking on the first day of summer, June 21st, and wrap up on August 2nd. All of the fitness you’ve gained will help you enjoy the celebration on August 16th when TRY-Athletes will participate in Millenium Running’s Boot Scootin’ Boogie 5K on August 16th. (More information on how to sign up for the race coming soon.)

Who can participate in the TRY-Athlete Challenge?

Current SONH athletes, Unified School athletes, and partners can register to TRY-Athletes. Each TRY-Athlete will be part of a team led by Athlete Leadership Council member. Teams will be assigned based on location. Signups will begin at Summer Games on June 6th. Activity tracking begins June 21st.

I don’t really like to run or walk. What other activities can I complete to get my 26 miles?

We know that fitness and health come in many different forms. TRY-Athletes can use the Activity to Mileage Conversion Chart to help them track their mileage for everything from biking and strength training to soccer and golf! Looking for an activity that we don’t have listed? Reach out to Leisa D’Amour for help.

What do I get if I sign up and complete the TRY-Athlete Challenge?

First and foremost – you’ll get fitness, fun, and the support of a whole team! As you know, fitness is crucial as it not only enhances your physical health, but it also boosts confidence, social skills, and overall well-being. Regular exercise helps improve strength, flexibility, and endurance, enabling you perform your best in competitions and everyday activities.

In addition, we’re still working out the specifics, but each registrant will receive a SONH item when they complete the registration form. TRY-Athlete Challenge t-shirts will be given to everyone who completes the 26 Mile Challenge, so you’ll have a race shirt for the Boot Scootin’ Boogie!

How do I track my miles?

You can track your miles on paper or using the website. Details and links will be distributed before the Challenge kicks off on June 21st.
