Upper Valley Area Summer Games in Claremont Sunday
Competition Sunday, May 4th at Monadnock Park and Community Center Pool
Claremont, NH (May 1, 2025) – The athletes of Special Olympics New Hampshire (SONH) are already looking forward to the 2025 State Summer Games at UNH. To be able to participate in those games, athletes will be qualifying at regional competitions this Sunday. The Upper Valley Area Summer Games will be held at Claremont’s Monadnock Park on May 4th and kick-off with the Parade of Athletes and Opening Ceremonies at 9:30 am.
The Upper Valley Area Summer Games include competition in athletics and bocce at the park and swimming at the Claremont Bank Community Center pool. The Area Summer Games serve as a precursor to the State Summer Games June 6th and 7th at UNH in Durham. Similar regional competitions are taking place this Sunday in two other regions of New Hampshire. The Seacoast Area Summer Games in Exeter and the Great North Woods Area Summer games in Berlin.
More than 160 athletes from a dozen different local programs will be competing this Sunday in Claremont. In all, there will be more than 600 athletes participating in regional competitions statewide this Sunday.
While many volunteers are ready for the event, there’s always room for more volunteers. Opportunities include competition support in Track and Field as well as Bocce, set-up and breakdown, food service, photos and video, awards and more. Anyone interested in helping on May 4th in Claremont is encouraged to check out the available volunteer opportunities here.
SONH President and CEO Mary Conroy is looking forward to the Sunday competitions. “These Area Summer Games really put the focus on our upcoming State Summer Games at UNH,” she noted. “The State Summer Games represent our largest sports event of the year with hundreds of athletes expected to compete on June 6th and 7th.” SONH is signing up volunteers now for the hundreds of positions that will be needed for the June event. Descriptions of those volunteer opportunities and sign-up can be found here.
