Alex Beauchner: Championing Health, One Step at a Time
When Alex Beauchner walks into a room, you can feel his energy—equal parts athlete, advocate, and leader. A proud competitor with the Dover Area local program and Team Barrington, Alex is known for his commitment to athletics, basketball, snowshoeing, softball, and previously swimming. But his leadership extends far beyond the playing field.

Recently, Alex traveled to Washington D.C. to attend a Health Messenger training at Special Olympics International headquarters—joining a national group of athlete leaders learning to promote wellness, advocate for inclusive healthcare, and share healthy habits with their communities. For Alex, the experience wasn’t just inspiring—it was personal.
“We need help accessing healthcare—we’re all good leaders, but we all need to support each other,” Alex said when reflecting on his biggest takeaway from the training. Health advocacy isn’t new to him—it’s something he’s been passionate about for years. He serves on the Board of ABLE NH, sits on ABLE NH’s Oral Healthcare Task Force, and is an active member of People First NH. He’s also a graduate of the Institute on Disability’s NH Leadership Series.
At the Health Messenger training, Alex dove into topics like mental wellness, nutrition, hydration, and the importance of ongoing exercise. He especially enjoyed learning breathing techniques for stress relief and mindfulness—tools he plans to share with fellow athletes back home. He also connected with Special Olympics’ Fit5 program, which encourages athletes to focus on three key goals: exercising five days a week, eating five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, and drinking five bottles of water daily.
Alex is already putting his new knowledge into action. He’s currently participating in SONH’s TRY-Athlete Challenge, a summer fitness initiative designed to help athletes reach 26 miles of movement over the course of several weeks. Not only is Alex determined to complete the challenge—he’s encouraging others to join, too.
Supporting Alex through this new chapter is Todd Wormstead, a volunteer with Alex’s local program and his mentor throughout the Health Messenger journey. “Alex really fed off the connections at the training,” Todd shared. “He was so excited about the advocacy piece, and I’m looking forward to supporting him as he puts that passion into practice here in New Hampshire.”
As part of his certification, Alex will complete an activation project this year—putting his training into action and continuing to inspire others to lead healthier lives.
Athlete. Advocate. Messenger. Alex Beauchner is proving that leadership is about more than having a voice—it’s about using it to build a healthier, more inclusive world.
