A special spotlight on longtime volunteer, Doug Moorhead

This week, as we get ready to celebrate International Volunteer Day, we want to take a moment to honor the incredible volunteers who power Special Olympics New Hampshire.
Your time, your heart, and your belief in our athletes make everything we do possible. We are endlessly grateful.

And today, we’re shining a well-deserved spotlight on someone who embodies that spirit of dedication: Doug Moorhead.

For more than two decades, Doug has been a steady, joyful, and transformative force behind our movement. Since his very first Penguin Plunge with the Woodstock Police Department in the early 2000s, Doug has been all-in — stepping into roles big and small with humility, humor, and heart.

Doug has done just about everything:

His contributions — through volunteering, leadership, time, and hands-on work — have brought more than one million dollars of value to SONH. But the real impact is measured in the experiences he has made possible and the community he’s helped strengthen.

Doug’s wife, Claire, says it best:

“One of the things he enjoys most about SONH is that everyone who volunteers is so dedicated and invested… He loves the athletes, but it’s beyond that. Everyone who gets involved is so into it. It’s a happy, grateful environment.”

Doug represents the very best of our volunteer family — dedicated, hard-working, passionate, and completely committed to helping others shine.

As we head into International Volunteer Day, we celebrate Doug… and every volunteer who makes this movement what it is.
Thank you for giving your time, your energy, and your hearts. YOU make the magic happen.
