Special Olympics New Hampshire Names Bridget Carleton as New Chief Executive Officer
Special Olympics New Hampshire (SONH) is excited to announce that the SONH Board of Directors has voted Bridget Carleton into the role of Chief Executive Officer. Bridget, who previously served as Chief Operating Officer, brings more than 15 years of professional experience with SONH—and a lifetime of connection to the movement—to this new chapter of leadership. Mary Conroy will continue to serve as President of the organization as part of a planned leadership transition toward retirement, ensuring continuity, stability, and shared stewardship as SONH continues to grow and evolve.
This leadership transition reflects the Board’s vision for sustaining and strengthening the organization for years to come. At its recent retreat, the SONH Board of Directors voted unanimously to adopt a thoughtful succession plan—one that honors SONH’s history while preparing for its future.
In announcing the decision, the Board shared:
“On behalf of the Special Olympics New Hampshire Board of Directors, we congratulate Bridget Carleton on her appointment as Chief Executive Officer. We also recognize Mary Conroy as she transitions into the role of President, ensuring continuity and ongoing leadership for the organization. This leadership structure positions Special Olympics New Hampshire for continued growth and expanded impact for athletes, families, and communities across the state.”
As part of this plan:
- Bridget has been appointed CEO by the Board.
- Mary will move from President & CEO into the role of President.
- Upon Mary’s future retirement, the President & CEO roles will be combined, and Bridget will assume that unified position.
Mary Conroy, who has led SONH with vision and dedication for more than three decades, expressed her full support and enthusiasm for this transition.
“Bridget is a remarkable leader whose passion for this work is matched only by her commitment to our athletes,” said Mary Conroy, President of SONH. “Her heart, her vision, and her lived experience within this movement make her exactly the right person to guide SONH into its next chapter. I couldn’t be more proud—or more excited—to continue working alongside her.”
Bridget shared her gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead:
“I am honored and humbled to step into the role of CEO,” she said. “Special Olympics has shaped who I am. To now help shape its future—alongside our athletes, families, staff, coaches, volunteers, and Mary—is a privilege. I believe deeply in what SONH stands for, and I’m committed to building a world where everyone is welcomed, valued, and included.”
Looking Ahead
The future of Special Olympics New Hampshire is bright. With Mary continuing to lead as President and Bridget stepping into the CEO role, SONH enters its next era with strength, stability, and shared purpose. Together—with athletes at the center—SONH will continue expanding opportunities, deepening community impact, and building a more inclusive New Hampshire for all.
Please join us in congratulating Bridget Carleton, CEO of Special Olympics New Hampshire.
