From center ice to the Zamboni, our athletes took the spotlight at the Whittemore Center.

On Sunday, January 4, the Whittemore Center came alive with cheers, pride, and community as UNH Men’s Hockey faced off against the Raiders during Special Olympics Night, presented by Fidium Fiber.

Athletes, families, and volunteers from across Special Olympics New Hampshire were in attendance for a night that celebrated inclusion through sport. A highlight of the evening was when Charlie Helfrich, athlete with the Concord Golden Eagles, took center ice to sing the national anthem, filling the arena with pride and purpose.

The excitement continued as four athletes—Steve Sullivan, Charlie Helfrich, Taylor Baxter, and Sean Rohlfing—were invited to take a memorable ride on the Zamboni, waving to fans and soaking in the energy of the crowd.

Special Olympics Night at UNH is a meaningful example of how community partnerships create powerful moments for athletes. As the longtime host site of our annual State Summer Games, UNH continues to open its doors and amplify opportunities for athletes to be celebrated, recognized, and included in all areas of sport.

We are grateful to UNH Men’s Hockey and Fidium Fiber for helping make this night one our athletes and families will remember for years to come.
