From Classmates to Roommates
A Friendship Built Through Inclusion
March 15, 2026
Some friendships begin in the usual ways—shared classes, passing conversations, familiar faces in the hallway.
But some are built with something deeper. Something intentional.
For Caleb Mace and Allison Menard, that foundation was inclusion.
The two first met at Dover High School, where Unified classes and athletics brought them into the same space—not just to learn, but to connect. What started as shared experiences in the classroom and on the field quickly grew into something more meaningful: a genuine friendship.
And when graduation came, that connection didn’t fade.
It grew.
Today, Caleb and Allison are not just friends—they’re roommates, navigating adulthood side by side in the same community where their story began.
Their journey is a powerful reminder that what happens through Special Olympics New Hampshire doesn’t stay on the field or in the gym. It carries forward—into everyday life, into independence, into relationships that last.
At its core, Special Olympics is about sport. But just beneath the surface, it’s about something even more lasting: belonging.
For Caleb and Allison, it created a space where differences didn’t divide—they connected. Where showing up meant more than participation—it meant being seen, valued, and included.
Their story was recently shared with students at a high school youth conference focused on life after graduation—a glimpse into what’s possible when inclusion is part of the journey early on.
Because this is what inclusion looks like.
Not just moments. Not just programs. But real lives, intertwined.
Friendships that continue long after the final whistle.
Homes built on trust and shared experience.
A future shaped by connection.
And if you’re wondering where you fit into a story like this—the answer is simple:
There’s a place for you here.
Whether you’re an athlete ready to compete, or someone looking to volunteer, coach, or be part of something bigger, Special Olympics New Hampshire is where connections like this begin.
