What training and paperwork are required to become a Unified Partner®, Local Program Volunteer or Class A Volunteer?
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Special Olympics New Hampshire! Whether you’re supporting a local team or joining as a Unified Partner®, you play a key role in creating inclusive, meaningful experiences for our athletes.
Follow the steps below to get started. Completed forms can be sent to SpecialOlympics@sonh.org.
What You’ll Need to Do
Step 1: Complete Your Application
Completed every 3 years
- Local Program Volunteer Application
If you plan to be a Unified Partner®, be sure to check the box at the top of the application - Two non-familial references are required
References may either:- Sign directly on your application, or
- Complete a Reference Form
Step 2: Complete the Communicable Disease Waiver
Required for all volunteers | Completed once
Step 3: Complete a Background Check (if 18+)
Required every 3 years
- If you answered NO to all background questions:

Complete the Motor Vehicle Record Release Form

Step 4: Complete Protective Behaviors Training (if 18+)
Required every 3 years
This training helps ensure the safety and well-being of all athletes and volunteers

Be sure to click “Renew Certification” (not “Retake the Course”) to stay current
A Quick Overview
- Communicable Disease Waiver completed once
- Complete the LPV Application every 3 years (including 2 non-familial references)
- Background check + Protective Behaviors training every 3 years (18+)
