Special Olympics Athlete Leadership

There are over 50,000 athlete leaders in the world. We offer training to interested athletes who are looking to advance their leadership skills and take on additional responsibilities as athlete leaders. Through Athlete Leadership, athletes have opportunities to share their stories and what Special Olympics means to them, promote healthy behaviors, and be a voice for others.

Athlete Leadership

There are over 50,000 athlete leaders in the world. We offer training to interested athletes who are looking to advance their leadership skills and take on additional responsibilities as an athlete leader. Through Athlete Leadership, athletes have the opportunity to share their stories and what Special Olympics means to them, promote healthy behaviors, and be a voice for others in their programs.

Athlete Leadership Introductory Courses

We offer two introductory courses for athletes beginning their Athlete Leadership journey. Those courses include Introduction to Athlete Leadership and Understanding Athlete Leadership. We offer each of these courses virtually twice a year.

Next Steps

There are three tracks an athlete leader can take following the introductory courses. Each of the tracks includes additional training and a specific role with the SONH organization. Click on each button below to learn more about the roles.
