Penguin Plunge

The Penguin Plunge is a fundraising event entering in  its thirteenth year. A Plunger agrees to plunge into the Atlantic Ocean at Hampton Beach on February 5th and solicits support from friends, business associates, family, employers, etc., to raise a minimum of $350 to benefit Special Olympics New Hampshire.  On Sunday, February 5th, WMUR-TV 9's Chief Meteorologist Mike Haddad, and Mark Ericson and Karen Kiley of WOKQ's Morning Waking Crew welcomed new and returning Penguins to the 2012 Plunge.


  
In 2012 - 703 individulas participated in the Penguin Plunge, raising $508, 692 for Special Olympics.
 
History
  • The first Plunge in 2000 had 159 participants. 
  • In 2011, 699 Plungers braved the icy Atlantic, each raising an average of $705 for Special Olympics New Hampshire.
  • In 2012, 703 Plungers jumped into the ocean and raised $508,692 for Special Olympics New Hampshire!

  • The Most Distinguished Penguin Award: Leslie Lazio
  • Super Flock Award: Frozen Sections. 37 Plungers raised $32,424
  • Pampered Penguin Award: Mellisa Drew raised $1,004 
  • Peerless Penguin: R. Paul Marchand raised $5,542
