Athletics

Athletics is considered track and field events with practice and competition offered throughout the season from March to June. Manchester Special Olympics athletes compete in the Area Summer Games, a regional competition, and the State Summer Games, held annually at the University of New Hampshire. We practice several jumping, running, walking and throwing events throughout the season from March to June. Events include:

  • Tennis ball throw
  • Softball throw
  • Shotput throw
  • Mini-Javelin throw
  • Standing long jump
  • Running long jump
  • High jump
  • Wheelchair events of various distances
  • Walking events of various distances
  • Running events of various distances
  • The pentathlon
  • Unified Sports Sprint Triathlon
The athletics season runs simultaneously to the bocce season. Athletes may choose to compete in either bocce or athletics.

We practice beginning in April to get ready for competition throughout the season in May and June. We welcome athletes of all abilities, and no experience with track and field is necessary! We encourage athletes and their families to try a new sport or event, and to challenge themselves to have fun, and be brave in the attempt!

The Manchester Track and Field team is generously hosted by the Manchester Parks and Rec Department, where we have the privilege to use the track and field facilities the at Livingston Park Complex in Manchester.
